Return to TIFF turquoise

Ernest Hemingway swore by the machine, of TIFF & Co. bangle more than 700,000 were sold between 1910 and 1940.In the 1920s, the black laquered-machines burst forth in a riot of turquoise and cherry red. "It was the jazz age," Stevenson suggests. Among the more exotic machines on TIFF 1837 bangle are the 1907-vintage Junior, a 10-by-4-by-1-inch machine designed to be carried in one's coat pocket. When a typist punched a key, the entire keyboard depressed. "I don't think it worked very well," TIFF 1837 Bar drop earrings said. The machine sold for a mere $18. Also exhibited are keyboard-less "index" machines on which typists selected letters to be printed from a rubber disc by adjusting a dial. The process was slow and totally impractical for any TIFF 1837 Bar key ring  other than writing short letters.
