The second robber was described as a black man, 18 to 21 years old, 130 to 140 pounds and wearing a black hoodie. About an hour earlier, police said, two men entered the Circle K on Brownsboro Road and asked for an item from behind the counter. The clerk turned to get the item and when he turned back around, one of the men was holding a handgun. The robbers grabbed cash from the register and ran away, police said. The robbers were described as black men in their early 20s. One was about 5-foot-10 with a slim build, wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt with the word "Salem" on it, khaki pants and blue shoes. The other was about 6 feet tall with a slim build, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and black shoes. The other robbery was at the Dairy Queen on Silas Creek Links of London Charms. Police said a man entered the store and ordered a soft drink. When the cashier opened the register, the man reached in and stole an undisclosed amount of cash and ran away. No one was injured. Mark Sanford has named Barry Barnette as the acting 7th Circuit solicitor and has recommended the state Senate appoint him to fulfill the unexpired term of Congressman-elect Trey Gowdy. The General Assembly passed a sine die resolution in June that extended the adjournment of the Senate and requires the body to approve Sanford's appointment instead of allowing the governor to select an interim solicitor. Sen. Harvey Peeler, R-Links of London Four Leaf Clover Charm, said the Senate is set to consider the appointment on Tuesday, and he expects the body to approve Barnette's appointment because he has "100 percent of support" from the legislative delegations of Spartanburg and Cherokee counties, which comprise the 7th Circuit Judicial Circuit. Sen. Lee Bright, R-Roebuck, said Tuesday that he wholeheartedly supported Barnette. "I don't foresee any delays. In fact, I think Barry's appointment will move swiftly through the Senate next week," Bright said. Barnette, 47, told Sanford during the governor's stop at Yanni's on Tuesday that he appreciated his support and hoped to fill the shoes left by Gowdy, who resigned on Dec. 31. Gowdy defeated then-Congressman Bob Inglis in a landslide June primary election Links of London Dress Charm, and then held off four candidates in the November general election. Gowdy is set to be sworn in today. Barnette said he appreciated the confidence of the Spartanburg and Cherokee county legislators and Sanford. Gowdy's term runs through January 2013.
