Courtney Brooks and Cheryl Brady were eager to Links of London Sale off their new sneakers. The Brooks Addiction Walker shoes were fitted just for the two Carlisle women on Tuesday. They also happened to be the first pair of brand new shoes they ever received. "I've never been given new shoes before," Brooks said. "I just had tears in my eyes and thanked them." The special fitting and offer was given to them by Dutrey's Shoes on Pomfret Street. The business was working with Carlisle Brethren in Christ Church, which was giving away certificates for new shoes during its Christmas dinner. "Carlisle Brethren in Christ Church has that dinner every year for people who can't afford to have one," Links of London Charms said. "We've gotten other things before, like scarves and hats, and there are presents for children, too." Brooks and Brady were only two of about 40 people who received certificates at the annual dinner, making Dutrey's Shoes plenty busy on Monday and Tuesday with fittings. Despite the rush, it wasn't too difficult a decision for the store's owner John Dutrey to agree to the church volunteers' proposal for new shoes. "I'm always for helping the needy out in any way I can," he said. "I think the important part is that they're getting a good shoe that is properly fit. They don't just come in and say they need a size 9. We sit them down, measure their foot Links of London A Charm make sure they get a shoe that fits. The shoes have excellent support and come in four widths and three colors." The attention Brooks got when she received the shoes was a surprise for her. "They treated us like regular people there," she said. "They didn't put you aside. Cheryl and I have been through identify theft and everything else.
